Sumy state Medical university is located in Sumy city in the north east of Ukraine. Its history began in 1948. Sumy Medical Institute was founded in 1992 as the Medical Faculty of Sumy State University. Such scholars and teachers, as Prof. Markevych V.E., Prof. Ataman A.V., and Prof. Sykora V.Z. were at the source of the Institute. Students and the academic staff have an opportunity to enter Ph.D. programmes of 9 specialties. Nowadays, 50 graduate students and 3 doctoral students are studying for receiving an academic degree. Currently work is done by one research grant of the President of Ukraine.
Medical Institute of Sumy State University is represented by 16 theoretical and clinical departments, 187 highly educated researchers, 21 M.D., professors and more than 100 Ph.D.
The theoretical departments of the Institute are located in a separate building. In Medical Institute provide all conditions for getting and mastering knowledge of the latest medical science, methods of diagnosis and treatment. The students have got the possibility to practice in the Museum of Normal and Pathological Anatomy, as well as attend computer labs, library, dining room, gym, stadium, swimming pool and dormitories.
The university currently serves about 14000 students who are pursuing bachelor and master degree in 54 major and 22 fields on knowledge. About 1600 foreign students represents almost 50 countries worldwide , there are more than 500 Indian students.
Annually SSU carries out about 400 scientific agreements, contracts and carries out over 70 international grants. SSU activity directs to the integration into scientific and education sphere. SSU has about 100 partners and about 1240 foreign students, academic mobility, active scientific development cooperation with foreign universities, associations and funds, program of dual diplomas with European institutions of higher education.
